Idaho Veterinary Hospital / Our Services

Our Services

Reproduction/Breeding

We provide a wide variety of services for our breeder clients. These include ultrasound, artificial insemination, semen shipping, infertility testing and genetic disease testing.

PennHIP, as well as OFA, are diagnostic tests available to screen for hip dysplasia. Both are offered and highly recommended, especially for large breed dogs to be used for breeding purposes.

Exotic Animal Medicine

Birds, small mammals, rabbits, ferrets and reptiles are commonly kept as companion pets. Problems result from poor husbandry, poor nutrition, and erroneous information about their care. We offer medical and surgical services for these special pets. See the library for care information, and schedule annual examinations to ensure their health and proper care.

Visit our links page to find more information on Birds, Iguanas, Rabbits and Ferrets.

Senior Health

Many of our pets are living longer. We consider our pets to be seniors between 6-10 years of age, depending on your pet’s size. This age chart shows your pet’s age relative to “people years”.

Our senior pets need more frequent check-ups, so physical exams are recommended every 6 months. Blood work and a urinalysis are recommended every year. Medications for age-related problems may also be reviewed.

Dental Care

Oral health is a crucial part of the overall health of your pet. Periodontal disease is the number one health concern in your pet’s mouth. Most small breed dogs and some large breeds are commonly affected. Treatment is similar to people and requires cleaning/scaling of the teeth, polishing and home care to manage its progression. See us for a dental consult and visit these related websites for more information.

Vaccines

Vaccination and immunity against fatal diseases has long been recognized as a crucial part of maintaining a pet’s health. In recent years, changes to the optimum frequency and intervals between vaccines have been made by Veterinarians based on the newest scientific data. The current protocols are provided below.

Puppy Vaccination Schedule
Age Distemper/Parvo Rabies Deworm
8 Weeks
12 Weeks
16 Weeks fecal test

Kitten Vaccination Schedule
Age Distemper Leukemia Rabies Deworm
8 Weeks
12 Weeks
16 Weeks fecal test

These vaccines need to be boostered at one year of age, then every three years. Spay or Neuter is usually performed between 4-6 months of age.
